ASHBURN, VA, and HOUSTON, TX, June 12, 2024 – LEOcloud, Inc. and Little Place
Labs Inc. (LPL) are pleased to announce the signing of a Strategic Collaboration
Agreement that will leverage the combined offerings of both companies to deliver
cutting-edge capabilities for space-based data analytics.
The collaboration focuses on deploying LPL’s innovative Orbitfy software suite on
LEOcloud’s Space Edge™ Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), which will facilitate
scalable real-time data processing and analysis directly on spacecraft, significantly
reducing downlink costs and enabling faster mission-critical insights.
LPL is a revolutionary software company and leader in space edge computing software
applications. Their Orbitfy Software suite combines seamless data preprocessing
capabilities with low-SWaP machine learning applications designed for deployment
directly on satellites and other space infrastructures. This enables efficient data
processing in orbit, providing rapid, precise, and cost-effective insights for commercial
and national security sectors, while also being critical for optimizing in-space operations
and missions.
LEOcloud is at the forefront of defining the Space Edge, enabling end users and
hyperscalers a seamless cloud presence at the evolving space edge. LEOcloud's Space
Edge™ Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) provides multi-cloud computing on board
space-based facilities, scaling to address the requirements of satellites, orbiting
research and manufacturing platforms, and space stations in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), the
lunar region, and beyond. Their managed service offering allows spacecraft operators to
focus on their core expertise while delivering local space-based, mission-critical cloud
computing services to their customers.
Looking ahead, LEOcloud and LPL are planning to demonstrate Orbitfy on LEOcloud’s
upcoming deployment of its Space Edge IaaS on the International Space Station (ISS)
National Lab as part of LEOcloud’s demonstration project awarded by the Center for the
Advancement of Science in Space (manager of the ISS National Lab). Their
collaboration will demonstrate the migration and operation of the Orbitfy Suite in a cloud
region in space. The demonstration will enable customers to understand the benefits of
deploying the Orbitfy Suite on their spacecrafts in the LEO and lunar regions.
“Space will be a data-driven economy requiring scalable cloud resources for deep
analytics to overcome the latency, security risks and cost burden of bringing data back
to Earth to derive actionable insight,” said Dennis Gatens, CEO and Founder of
LEOcloud. “Inside the human loop will not be sufficient, rather scalable cloud edge
computing resources inside the terrestrial data center loop will be required to optimize
the capabilities of Orbitfy.”
"We are excited to collaborate with LEOcloud to push the boundaries of space-edge
computing. By integrating our solutions, we are delivering near-real-time data
processing capabilities directly in orbit. This partnership marks a significant step forward
in transforming how data is analyzed and utilized in space. It allows us to demonstrate
the potential of on-board processing that goes beyond just remote-sensing applications
to unlocking new possibilities for human space missions and exploration." - Bosco Lai,
CEO of Little Place Labs
